What it is

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum toxin from Merz that's double-filtered to remove the accessory proteins present in Botox and Dysport — sometimes called a 'naked' toxin. It treats the same upper-face lines with a comparable 3–4 month duration.

Benefits

  • No accessory proteins, which may lower the risk of developing antibody resistance over years of repeat treatment
  • No refrigeration required before reconstitution, unlike Botox
  • Comparable onset (3–5 days) and duration (3–4 months) to Botox
  • Often priced slightly below Botox per unit

Cost

Across the Bay Area, xeomin runs $10–$14 per unit. Peninsula cities like Palo Alto and Los Gatos sit at the upper end, while Fremont and San Jose are generally the most competitive.

Recovery

None. Same post-care as Botox — avoid lying flat or exercising for four hours.

Risks

  • Temporary bruising or swelling at injection sites
  • Mild headache in the first 24 hours
  • Less brand recognition than Botox, though the active mechanism is equivalent
